JHRTS News & Announcements

by Brian Toombs, JHRTS Co-President

JHRTS had a sparkling month of April with a variety of exceptional events that showcased our organization’s commitment to reflect the evolving entertainment market place and provide diverse opportunities for our membership to get together and be productive.

JHRTS kicked off the month with another wildly successful philanthropic endeavor, “Reading to Kids” at Los Angeles Elementary School in downtown L.A. Twenty five JHRTS members spent an entire Saturday reading to over 100 kids in grades K through 5. The Executive Director of the program wrote a wonderful note to our board, specifically highlighting that our members’ positive attitude and enthusiasm lent itself perfectly to the program and gave their kids the “inspiration to read” which only added to the sense of fulfillment our members received on that day. This event showcases JHRTS’ ongoing commitment to actively participating in the betterment of our city and society. Kudos!

JHRTS stepped outside the box and moved into the future with our “2010 Streamys Showcase” at Busby’s East this month. The Streamys are presented annually by the International Academy of Web Television to recognize excellence in the arts and science of web television production, including directing, acting, producing, and writing. The formal ceremony took place this year at the Orpheum Theatre and was hosted by comedian Paul Scheer. They are the first ever envelope-opening live streamed award show. JHRTS provided their membership and the entertainment community with a special sneak preview of the most highly anticipated nominees, clips from the best of web and dynamite cross platform networking. This event signifies JHRTS’ evolution and continued trend of connecting  young entertainment professionals from all arenas.

Lastly, this month JHRTS hosted its annual “Speed Networking” event at Falcon in Hollywood. The event is designed to introduce JHRTS Members that haven’t met before. Akin to “Speed Dating” participants are seated one-on-one with other assistants/coordinators/jr. execs/jr. agents in the hopes of expanding their networking base, in an incredibly quick and efficient manner. With over 100 young Hollywooders attending, the event proved to be a strong success.

Looking ahead we have more panels, mixers and a large comedy event coming up. We are also excited to begin elections for a new board next month. Stay tuned!
