JHRTS News & Announcements

by Brian Toombs, JHRTS Co-President

JHRTS continued its forward momentum with a strong month in September. Most impressive was the highly successful JHRTS Fire Relief Drive which raised goods for families affected by the recent devastating Station Fire.

JHRTS board members set up collection boxes at numerous entertainment companies around Los Angeles and spread the word to their co-workers and peers to begin donating clothes, food, pet supplies and important life items that many families had destroyed or left behind due to the fire. In an effort that spanned the two most demoralizing weeks of the fire, the JHRTS board was able to collect 60 bags of clothing, 12 bags of children’s toys, 5 bags of school supplies, 10 boxes of kitchen wares plus over 20 bags of pet supplies, all of which was driven immediately to the fire-affected areas and distributed by The Red Cross and the Pasadena Animal Shelter. We were very proud of our board and our membership for the incredibly quick turnaround and amount of support they were able to coordinate within the entertainment community.

On a lighter note, JHRTS continued to make waves socially with another successful industry mixer at Hyde in Hollywood. Over 200 young entertainment professionals attended as membership applications flew off the shelves and renewals spiked yet again. JHRTS continues to host its events at some of the hottest spots around Hollywood and buzz around the organization continues to grow as evident by the packed venues.

On the educational front, JHRTS is eagerly finalizing plans to host a professional panel in October focusing on the topic of “Pitching.” We are currently gathering well known entertainment players from diverse sectors of the industry who all deal with pitching television properties in some manner. Whether it is how to give a solid pitch, what an exec looks for in a pitch or some classic pitch stories that have made the rounds around town, plus everything in between, our JHRTS membership will be exposed to all aspects of the television pitch process by hearing it first hand from people who have been doing it successfully for years. We are extremely excited to announce our panelists and moderators soon. Stay tuned!

Between making strong philanthropic contributions, continuing to be socially relevant and providing our membership with unique educational opportunities, JHRTS has been very active in the first two months of our year and will continue to evolve and grow as our schedule is filled with more exciting events stretching into 2010. We are pleased with our success but are hungry to tackle new challenges and excited for what lays ahead.
