JHRTS News & Announcements

by Chase Bartels and Tori Socha, JHRTS Co-Presidents

March was a successful month for JHRTS as Eric Schrier of FX Network hosted our fourth roundtable event of the year.  Members were privileged hear advice from Eric on what it takes to form a successful pitch and how to develop an idea into a great product for cable or online.

We are excited to announce the first ever HRTS-JHRTS Professional Mentorship Program.  Our goal for this program is to team mentees (JHRTS Members) with mentors (HRTS Members) who work and have an interest in similar fields.  We have begun accepting applications from JHRTS members and have already received a fantastic response from the community.  We can't wait to get this underway!

Our March Members Mixer was was held this past week at Happy Endings in Hollywood in association with Tubfilter’s Web Television Week.  As part of the mixer, members and guests were entered in a raffle to win tickets to the First Annual Streamy Awards.  The Streamy Awards is a professional award show created to recognize outstanding achievement for shows produced originally for broadband distribution.  We were excited to see that “Children’s Hospital” which premiered at our Digital Content Gallery this past September has been nominated for best comedy web series!  We applaud all Stremay Award Nominees who are representing this unique new arena of our industry.

Looking ahead, JHRTS is getting ready for spring!  Our upcoming April lecture at CAA entitled, "Who's on TV?  Diversity: On and Off the Small Screen," will encourage a healthy discussion about the state of diversity in the media today.  Also in the works is our Second Annual JHRTS Comedy Night which will be held at the Comedy Store on April 20th. We are hoping for a lineup of nothing less then the best names in comedy for a night of laughs exclusively for our members.  Stay tuned for info!
