JHRTS News & Announcements

by Chase Bartels and Tori Socha, JHRTS Co-Presidents
JHRTS closed out 2008 with an exciting slate of events throughout November and December.

We started November hosting this years’ second Roundtable discussion featuring Morgan Wandell, President, Berlanti Television.  Over 30 members joined us at Endeavor for an exclusive one on one with Morgan to hear not only about his valuable experiences in journalism and in scripted television but to hear his valuable career advice as well as his vision for the entertainment industry during season ahead.

Later in the month, we welcomed over 100 guests who showed up to mingle at Hollywood hotspot, Falcon, for our rapidly growing Monthly Member’s Mixer.  JHRTS ended November in true Thanksgiving spirit as two dozen members drove to the heart of Los Angeles to serve food to over 60 homeless women at the Downtown Women's Center.

JHRTS kicked off the Hollywood holiday season, hosting our 6th Annual Young Hollywood Holiday Party on December 3rd  at Opera.  With net proceeds benefiting the Michael J. Fox Foundation, over 450 guests arrived ready to mingle with fellow co-workers as well as with those they only know over the phone.   A healthy list of our favorite television celebrities walked the red carpet giving the night an extra sparkle. Thank you to all of our corporate sponsors who showed their support not only to our organization but also to Team Fox.  In a season where holiday parties are scarce, we are thrilled to have hosted such a successful night which benefited a great cause.

We ended our 2008 schedule of events with an incredible Comedy Showrunner panel coined, "What's So Funny?: A Conversation About Comedy." Held at CAA, the evening was moderated by Kelsey Grammer, (Actor, Director, Producer) and featured panelists Chuck Lorre (Creator, Two and a Half Men and The Big Bang Theory), Bill Lawrence (Creator, Scrubs), Tom Kapinos (Creator, Californication), Kari Lizer (Creator, The New Adventures of Old Christine), and Donald Todd (Creator, Samantha Who?).  Nearly 200 JHRTS members and young professionals listened to the valuable opinions of these distinguished scribes as they spoke about their creative insight on the current state of comedy and what comedy is all is about at its heart that leaves the world wanting more.

The JHRTS Board wishes you and your loved ones a happy holiday season and we look forward to producing more great events in 2009!
