JHRTS News & Announcements
by Brian Toombs, JHRTS Co-President

May was a fun and fulfilling month for JHRTS. Our usual mix of fun and education was balanced with some new endeavors for our organization and made for a diverse month.

For the second year in a row JHRTS hosted  “Speed Networking” at Falcon in Hollywood. The event is akin to the popular speed dating events for singles, the difference being the participants were young Hollywooders looking to make connections and network. A packed house of professionals representing almost every aspect of the television business were paired up, chatted for six minutes, then moved along to the next exciting encounter. The event lasted well in to the night, was a smashing success and showcased the unique type event JHRTS has become known for.

JHRTS continued its commitment to philanthropic endeavor with our organization lending a hand to the Venice Art Walk this month. The Art Walk is the Venice Family Clinic’s biggest annual fundraiser. The centerpiece is the Venice Art Walk & Auctions itself – which the Los Angeles Times calls “the granddaddy of them all” – featuring more than 50 artists’ studios and special exhibits, as well as a 400-piece silent art auction. JHRTS members showed up in droves to help set up art and facilities, usher guests through the exhibits and even took the time to enjoy this beautiful art work themselves. This is shining example of the reach JHRTS has into the local community beyond just the television business.

Members of JHRTS were invited to become judges in the Independent Television Festival. As judges they will screen independent TV pilots and voice their opinions in a myriad of categories. More info can be found the JHRTS homepage at HRTS.org.

Finally, in a unique twist on the popular mixer format, JHRTS paired with a sister organization in the theatre world, The Fourth Wall, to throw a mixer at the exclusive West Hollywood Nightclub Voyeur. The event was extremely well attended and fostered a unique networking opportunity for professionals of different industries. JHRTS will continue to push for these opportunities as the line in media blurs, our organization will be persistent in it effort to provide unique conditions for membership to grow as professionals and people.
