JHRTS News & Announcements
by Brian Toombs, JHRTS Co-President

JHRTS had another successful month in October with a wide spectrum of events that showcased our organization’s diversity, creativity and ability.

Most recently, JHRTS held a wildly popular panel discussion at CAA featuring Mark Gordon (EP, Mark Gordon Co.), Jason Carbone (EP, Good Clean Fun Prod.), Julie McNamara (SVP Drama, CBS), Lindsay Sloane (VP Drama, FOX) and Pierre Brogan (Agent, CAA) on the topic of “pitching” in the television world. These top level industry professionals related their experiences, advice, criticisms and strategies on pitching with incredible enthusiasm and real down to earth banter. The lively dialogue and very specific discussion points contributed by our panelists had the sold out Ray Kurtzman Theatre on the edge their seat for well over an hour and a half and made for one of the most successful panel events JHRTS has held in some time. The topic of “pitching” was especially engaging for our constituency as it was a unique opportunity for them to hear first hand, specific, real world advice on everything from what makes a pitch successful or not, to what the television market place is reflecting now, to ways to strengthen and alter your pitch after being passed on, plus everything in between, from people who are not only successful in this arena but live it every day. Our incredibly intelligent panelists related their successes and failures and what they have learned along the way in a fun, often humorous manner which created a fantastic educational environment. It was a truly inspiring night for many young Hollywood professionals who hope to one day go from audience member to panelist themselves. Bravo!

Additionally, JHRTS was proud to participate in a volunteer effort for the LA Food Bank this month. A group of JHRTS members spent their Saturday packaging produce the Food Bank had collected in order to be shipped properly to those most in need around LA County. We loaded over 5000 pounds of squashes, pears, and cabbage into crates for distribution and delivery to foster homes, community centers, after school programs, school cafeterias, senior citizen homes and soup kitchens. Overall, after a lot heavy lifting, sweating and dozens of packed boxes, the fresh produce was successfully shipped to their intended destinations and our members were left with a feeling of fulfillment in giving back to the community where they live and work.  This wonderful day of charity work highlights JHRTS’ continued commitment to philanthropic endeavor and will continue in the months to come.

Lastly, as has become tradition amongst young Hollywood, our October mixer went off with a bang at XIV by Michael Mina this month with another 200 industry professionals mingling, networking and blowing off some steam after work. These events continue to be extremely popular and have positively impacted our other events by creating industry wide visibility and excitement for the JHRTS brand.

Fall has been good to our group as membership renewals keep coming in and new membership continues to rise. As evident by our latest panel there is great interest and recognition of JHRTS events around the entertainment industry and we are committed to capitalizing on our momentum by to providing even higher quality programming to our membership and peer group.
