I Made It Back ...

By Dave Ferrara, HRTS Executive Director
Welcome back to another edition of Society Views, the HRTS’ monthly e-newsletter.  Unfortunately I missed my column in last month’s Views.  Just not enough time, or maybe I just couldn’t pull myself away from wall-to-wall election coverage long enough to draft something intelligent!  Fortunately it was a very full edition so I’m guessing my monthly mutterings were not missed!   This month, we have another edition chock full of outstanding content so maybe I can skip out on ... Sorry ... Just thought maybe ... oh well.

In any event … this month Society Views features a great recap by our contributing editor, Chris Davison, of our season kickoff luncheon with Former President Bill Clinton.  Actually it recaps our Saturday afternoon reception with the former President who couldn’t have been more gracious and forthcoming in his comments to our organization.  President Clinton made a great speech and Ernie Del did a bang-up job moderating the Q & A that followed.   In addition to the former president’s views on global interdependence and Hollywood’s place in the grand scheme of things, I also learned that Clinton is a huge Grey’s Anatomy fan!  Who knew?

Also in this issue, check out the feature column from PricewaterhouseCoopers on the emergence of video clips as the engine that drives awareness and buzz.  I’m guessing there’s something to that as who among us hasn’t seen the Tina Fey as Sarah Palin SNL clips on YouTube?  PWC’s in-depth analysis of the trend is just the kind of information that we as an organization hope to continually provide in the weeks and months ahead to help members better navigate the ever evolving business landscape we find ourselves in.

Every month in the member news section of Society Views we are proud to introduce you to a couple of fellow HRTS Members.  This month’s member profiles feature History’s Nancy Dubuc and CAA’s Ryan Ly.  These up-close and personal interviews are designed to help members get to know one another on a deeper level than is typically possible when meeting briefly at an event.  We’ve now profiled over thirty HRTS members in our pages and if you’d like to be featured in a future profile just drop us an email at SocietyViews@hrts.org and we’ll try to get you on the schedule.

And pictures!  You want pictures?  We are happy to announce that HRTS and SmugMug have partnered to provide a complete gallery of HRTS event photos for your enjoyment.  Just click on the HRTS Gallery announcement and you can see photos from the recent Bill Clinton event.  Images are not downloadable but members can print them in high-resolution right from the gallery.   Ongoing we are uploading galleries from past events and will be creating new galleries going forward as new events happen.

And lastly get up to speed on what the junior membership of HRTS is doing in the JHRTS section.  These young execs are busily presenting educational panels, community service events and the ever-popular JHRTS Holiday benefit party so I encourage you to find out what the future leaders of our industry are up to.

Every month it seems like the HRTS Society Views e-newsletter keeps getting larger and more comprehensive.  I know that we in our industry are bombarded with massive amounts of information on a daily basis (which is why we keep it to monthly!) but I encourage all HRTS members to take a couple of minutes to peruse our e-newsletter and see if there might be something in there that helps you in your daily efforts.  Whether you count on our e-newsletter for a tidbit of information on an industry trend, a factoid about a fellow HRTS member you didn’t know, or just a brief respite from the daily craziness we all endure I hope that HRTS Society Views continues to be a welcome visitor to you email inbox.

See you at the next luncheon,
